The British royals aren’t exactly who you’d expect to open up about mental health and yet, they have. Harry, William and Kate recently opened up about mental health in a video supporting Heads Together, a advocacy group that works to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

The Royals Open Up About Mental Health

For the first time ever, William and Harry opened up about losing a mother at a young age. In this telling video, both brothers discuss bottling their feelings.

Harry was the first to bring it up ,” I always thought to myself ‘What’s the point of bringing up the past?'”

William commiserated with his brother, “It’s very easy to run from it, to walk away from it and avoid it the whole time.”

Losing a parent at such a young age can’t be easy, especially in such a public sphere. It’s nice to see these young royals open up about the stigma of mental health. Anyone who has lost a loved on can definitely relate to what these three have to say so be sure to check it out below.

In news out of the UK, police have made an arrest in what British authorities are calling a “barbaric attack” on an Ariana Grande concert. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the bombing at the Manchester Arena. The attack has left 22 dead and more than 50 people injured. According to the New York Times, “The bomb tore through an entrance hall of the 21,000-seat Manchester Arena at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday as a concert by the American pop star Ariana Grande was ending.”

Police confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man southwest of the city center in relation to last night’s incident. In a televised statement, Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain said, “We now know that a single terrorist detonated his improvized explosive device near one of the exits of the venue, deliberately choosing the time and place to cause maximum carnage and to kill and injure indiscriminately.”

The terrorist attack is being called “the worst in the history of Manchester and Northern England.” (via New York Times) Following the attack, Ariana shared her thoughts on social media saying, “Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry. I don’t have words.”

The city mayor shared his thoughts on Twitter:

This is still a developing story. However, according to CNN, Isis has shared on its Telegram channel that a “soldier of the caliphate” was able to “plant explosive devices” at the arena.

I couldn’t be more touched or proud of Ariana Grande who hosted a tribute concert in Manchester, U.K. last night in honor of the victims of the suicide bombing at her concert just last month. Headlines are beaming with words of her sincerity and uplifting nature at such a challenging event in the wake of such violence.

“Tonight is all about love,” a teary-eyed Grande told the crowd of thousands at the “One Love Manchester” concert. The lyrics to her hit love ballads seemed to take on special resonance in the wake of the May 22 attack: “I’m stronger than I’ve been before,” Grande sang in “Break Free” as the audience cheered. According to NBC, “Security was tight but the mood was exuberant Sunday at a historic cricket stadium in Manchester, where thousands of music fans turned out to see Ariana Grande and other pop stars pay tribute to the victims of last month’s suicide bombing in the English city.”

“Some of the victims’ families had bristled at Grande hosting the concert so soon after the suicide bombing that killed 22 people, but her earnestness and emotional acuity meant that for thousands of people, this was an event that soothed and uplifted. She also helped raise another £2m during the three hours of the concert alone.

The concert was heartfelt, joyful, even defiant. It was, as Grande said tearfully, “light, and filled with fun, love and bright energy”. Dressed in a sweatshirt and stilettos, the 23-year-old hosted rather than headlined, with deep feeling and sensitivity.” (via The Guardian)

You know what’s terrible? Living in a world where violence seems to reign. I know there are countless positive things happening around the globe, but it’s so tough hearing about more terrorist attacks day in and day out. It’s a challenge to make heads or tails of it in your mind and even more difficult to explain to growing children and teens.

Over the weekend, “seven people were killed by militants who drove a van at high speed into pedestrians on London Bridge and then stabbed revelers in the nearby Borough Market area on Saturday.” (via Reuters) There are many unanswered questions that remain, but in the last 48 hours or so, British law enforcement has been able to piece a few things together. Here are some updates from around the web:

A van drove into pedestrians on the bridge and the three men stabbed people in both sites, with witnesses hearing them shout: “This is for Allah”.

The three attackers were shot and killed – dying within eight minutes of the first call, police said. Eight armed officers fired 50 rounds – “an unprecedented amount,” according to Scotland Yard.

They believed all three were wearing suicide vests, which ultimately turned out to be fake.

Just weeks following the news of an explosion at Ariana Grande’s recent concert in Manchester, the U.K. faces the ramifications of yet another violent attack. Our hearts are with the families of all the victims – and our minds are trying to understand the violence.

According to CNN:

Police said 11 people had been detained in a series of raids following the attack, in which seven people were killed and 48 others injured. British Prime Minister Theresa May said police had identified all three attackers and would release their names “when the investigation permits.”

• One alleged attacker had a connection to Ireland, a source briefed by an Irish counter-terrorism official said.
• May faced questions over cutting 20,000 police posts in her time as Home Secretary.
• Britain’s most senior police officer Cressida Dick said police resourcing needed to be revised.
• Leader of the main opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, called on May to resign over cuts.

Life was back to functioning Monday morning in London, with commuters crossing the bridge to head to work, school and the like. In the face of such violent acts, we cannot let the terrorists stop us from living life to the fullest, but the injured and taken innocent lives will always be remembered. When I think of artificial intelligence, my brain tends to imagine a society run by robots. Oftentimes, that isn’t the case. In fact, there are people out there using AI for the greater good. Take AI Buddy, for example. AI Buddy is a program that supports military kids while their parents are at war or don’t make it back. This unique support system was created with the help of psychologists and pediatricians to become a virtual member of the family. The system does this by collecting information from close relatives and scanning emails, texts and social media data while keeping your privacy on the web. It stays in contact with parents and kids throughout the day, giving them support while their parents are at war.

Since 2001, more than 3 million children in the world have had one deployed parent, while thousands of them have lost a parent because of war. Many of these children end up experiencing mental health problems at higher rates than other children. Enter AI Buddy. This system is meant to help support the well-being of these children who’s parents are oftentimes absent. 

According to their website, AI Buddy works as a pseudo parent by sending messages to your children’s smart devices, using online information to help with homework, and even reading bedtime stories. When a parent has passed, the system helps the child with the transition until the child is ready to let it go. It’s a sensitive process, which AI Buddy is equipped to handle. That’s just the gist! There’s much more that AI Buddy has to offer. Just check out the video below!

Parents of military children are in a unique position of having an absentee parent who’s serving in the armed forces, so I think this is a great program that truly has the child in mind! The mental health of children is just as important as physical health so we need more systems in place that support healthy emotional maturity.

I couldn’t help but agree more. La La is a woman who is tough, beautiful, and empowered. I feel lucky to be her friend. She’s an entrepreneur like me so we understand what it’s like to be in control of what we want. Along with being the co-founder of Motives® for La La, the powerhouse has got a lot going on this year from a fashion line with Lord & Taylor to a movie based off of her best selling book, The Love Playbook. But apparently La La doesn’t seem to phased by her busy schedule.

“That’s a bad bitch rule: Make your own opportunities!”

In the interview, she also preaches the importance of of self-love and self care.

“I’m learning that as I go, because I have always put family, friends, life, work before myself and I get to myself later. And now I’m realizing you can’t ‘get to you’ later. You being great, makes everyone else around you great, makes you a better mom, a better person. You being great makes you better for everyone else.”

Having my close knit group of friends around me is imperative! They remind me what it’s all about and support JR and I at the same time. We all try to be there for each other! They’re a special gang. This year, we really pulled out all the stops for MAIC2017. We had everyone from Scottie Pippen, Fat Joe to Jamie Foxx. They were definitely the highlight of the show. On Monday August 21st, the moon will completely cover the sun. For many of us, we can only see a partial solar eclipse. For those of you who live in the states Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, or Georgia, congrats, you’re getting a full view of the eclipse! This is the first coast to coast eclipse in 99 years so many people are traveling great distances just to get a peak. The last time the US saw a full solar eclipse was in 1979, so it’s no surprise people are getting excited. If you don’t live on one of those lucky states that gets to check out the full eclipse, and you aren’t planning to travel, NASA will be live-streaming the eclipse. Here’s What You Need to Know About The Total Solar Eclipse

It’s imperative that you do not look directly into the eclipse on Monday. It’s never safe to look directly into the sun so it’s important that you find some safe ways to watch the eclipse. Check out this handy video for some tips on how to see the eclipse while protecting your eyes. This is very important, guys!

A solar eclipse is when the sun, moon, and Earth line up so that the moon blocks the sun completely to shadow the Earth. It’s a pretty incredible happenstance! The moon needs to be just far enough from the Earth and at the right size in order for a total eclipse to occur.
